DC Rendezvous

DC Rendezvous is a series centered on the ongoing re-encounters between Futuro Berg and Christopher, a Cameroonian friend the photographer first met in 2019 while working in migrant support contexts at the Mexico–Guatemala border. After years of separation, the project follows the photographer’s return trips to the United States—particularly Washington D.C. and Baltimore—to visit Christopher and witness the conditions of his “new life” after migration and asylum processes. The series combines portraiture with observational images made during these visits, as well as during the walks and movements through the cities that shape each encounter. Alongside documenting Christopher’s everyday reality, the work opens up to the urban environments and the people met along the way, reflecting how relationships, displacement, and belonging unfold through movement and chance encounters. The images form a fragmented visual diary of reunion, distance, and time, where walking, waiting, and re-encountering become central to the experience of the work. DC Rendezvous es una serie centrada en los reencuentros continuos entre Futuro Berg y Christopher, un amigo camerunés que el fotógrafo conoció en 2019 mientras trabajaba en contextos de apoyo a migrantes en la frontera entre México y Guatemala. Tras años de separación, el proyecto sigue los viajes de regreso del fotógrafo a Estados Unidos —en particular a Washington D.C. y Baltimore— para visitar a Christopher y ser testigo de las condiciones de su «nueva vida» tras los procesos de migración y asilo. La serie combina el retrato con imágenes de observación realizadas durante estas visitas, así como en los recorridos y desplazamientos por las ciudades que dan forma a cada encuentro. Además de documentar la realidad cotidiana de Christopher, el trabajo se abre a los entornos urbanos y a las personas que aparecen en el camino, y refleja cómo los vínculos, el desplazamiento y la pertenencia se despliegan a través del movimiento y los encuentros fortuitos. Las imágenes componen un diario visual fragmentado de reencuentro, distancia y tiempo, donde caminar, esperar y reencontrarse se vuelven centrales en la experiencia de la obra.
